July Fourth Party at the Beach

They came in droves on their bikes, scooters, motorcycles and cars. July 4th at the beach is a time honored tradition for the townies, and for the locals, its party time!

This year’s festivities featured a clear blue sky with temperatures in the upper 90’s and a wide swath of strand with low tide happening around mid afternoon.

Sand starved westsiders from the wrong side of the ditch staked out their territory on our white powdery beach as they layed out in the sun, frollicked in the surf, drank a lot of beer and grilled their bulging wursts.

The locals took to the road, clogging the oceanside artery with bicycles coming from all directions shouting greetings and felicitations, and partaking in cold beverages at the many street parties going on at just about every house lining bicycle alley.

The party continued all day long, when at dusk came the long awaited convergence of townies and locals, swarming the festival grounds to the tunes of sailors in a rock band fullfilling their annual commitment at the pavillion amphitheater.

As the skies darkened, the beaches swelled to standing room only while the masses incenerated their sparkling devices, the illegal airborne works of fire being seen and heard up and down the coast line.

Finaly, the time had come for the pros to take over. Twenty minutes of oohs and ahhs as the bombs bursted in the smoke filled skies, lighting up the night with a man made aurora borealis eminating a quarter mile into the Atlantic from the end of the pier.

The show was over. The cars backed up as they waited for a break in the bicycles to cross the road and head back west. The traffic was jammed bumper to bumper as the great escape commenced, eventualy giving the roads and pathways of our beach towns back to us.

Forth of July at our cozy little beach community, a once a year party gauranteed to put a smile on your face.
